Security

The New York State Security Guard Act of 1992 requires all security officers to register with the NYS Department of State. The State requires people joining the security industry to participate in three separate courses in the following order:

• Eight Hour Pre-Assignment Training Course for Security Guards
• Sixteen Hour On-the-Job Training Course for Security Guards
• Eight Hour Annual In-Service Training Course for Security Guards

The Annual In-Service course must be completed within one year of completing the On-the-Job course and every year thereafter. The Pre-Assignment and the On-the-Job training courses are one-time courses.
